'Video device is currently in use'

If this turns out to be a double post, forgive me. I thought I posted it
earlier but I can’t see it and it’s been a long five minutes.

I’m trying to put video from an analog camcorder in to Movie Maker. Should
be possible. I’m using the yellow/yellow connections (composite). When I try
to capture the video I get this message:

“The video device is currently in use. Close any other application that is
using the device and try again.â€

When I click OK to close that message I get another, “ The video device
cannot be used at this time because there has been an error starting the
device.â€

All other programs are closed, so what’s up?

you need an analog conversion device between the camcorder and computer....
either a digital camcorder that has a 'pass-thru' feature or some kind of
device like a Dazzle 80 or 90

Thanks for the prompt reply, PapaJohn. Just had a quick look at all the info

a typical TV type card captures to MPEG-2... which you would then need to
convert to AVI.... see the Importing Source Files > Video > MPEG-2 page of
my site for that.

the Dazzle would support capture via Movie Maker directly to a WMV file....
