Hi,

This is probably a FAQ, but I can't find an answer.

One solution I did find was to disable "Media Center Receiver Service" in services.msc.
That did not work.
So, I disabled the others; "Media Center Extender Service" and "Media Center Sheduler Service".
Still nothing.
I rebooted each time. Still nothing.

What else is there to disable?

Thanks,

No idea.

What exactly is the problem? do you just keep getting video device is in
use each time you start up?

That is correct.

I don't know. I guess I am going to have to manually disable stuff, then figure out what devices I have to disable for Movie Maker to work.

Others have had the same problem.

I am pretty savvy with a computer and will probably have to figure this out on my own.
I thought I could get a simple solution without having to do it myself.

I think it probably has something to do with ATI drivers.
I have had that problem in the past. (Windows 2000 to XP upgrade)

I think I found out why it doesn't work.

3. Open the software used for the video capturing. The software has to be able to recognize the special video format, called MS-DVR, that the TV tuner card uses.
Many popular video editing programs (like Windows Movie Maker) do not work with this format and may produce the error message Video device in use .

This mentions something about Video filters.

I think it must be related to my device
ATI Mobility Radeon X1400.

Thanks,

Hi,

I really think it has something to do with the MPEG2 video format.

This is from my laptop spec sheet:
Built-in TV Tuner Application: Fujitsu Instant MyMediaT, InterVideo WinDVR
Antenna Signal Input: 75?, mini-jack to F-connector / IEC connector, RG-6U coaxial cable provided.
Video Input: Composite Video, RCA yellow, S-video
Video Output: 720 x 480 pixel resolution, MPEG2 compression
Audio Input: RCA white, RCA red, MPEG2 audio compression
TV System Supported: PAL

Video Format Compatibility List. (See what it says about MPEG2)
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;308464

I think I am screwed in that I can't directly input to Movie Maker.
I have to go the round about way and input using Media Center, then convert from dvr-ms to mpeg or .wmv format.

Thanks,
I think I found out why it doesn't work.

Sorry for the delay, but you do seem to have got it. MM does not capture
like that, and your best bet is to convert to wmv
