I am trying to install Vista on a Dell Optiplex GX520 with Intel 82945G
Chipset and integrated Video. Both components have a yellow dot with
exclamation point. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling the video card with
no luck. I installed the July 2006 Windows Vista Beta 2 software. It says
its a Lakeport Graphics controller.

Any way to get this to work?

I did a clean install of Vista Beta 2 on a motherboard with an Intel 945G
Express chipset. During the install it recognized the integrated Intel GMA
950 video hardware. The Intel Lakeport driver that is included with Vista
Beta 2 was installed automatically. And it supports the Vista Aero Glass
UI.

When you say that you tried uninstalling and reinstalling the video card I
assume you mean the driver (since there is no discrete video card). The
driver will never install correctly until the hardware shows up without
the yellow exclamation mark in device manager.

I'm guessing you did an upgrade install over XP on the Dell. That may be
your problem. Try wiping the hard drive and doing a clean install. At this
point in the Vista beta an upgrade install is problematic.

Roy,

I installed 5472 on a GX620 with the same video chipset (I think...). It
installed the Lakeport video drivers and I got Aero Glass, no problem.

I'm not sure what your issue is below... you're saying the Lakeport driver
is installed and it's got a bang (exclamation point)?

Hi.

I rebooted from CD, and deleted the partition, created a new partition and
formated the HD. Re ran the install, and in Device Manager I have Yellow
balls & ! on the "Lakeport Graphics Controller" -Display Adapters, "Multi
Media Audio Controller" and Video Controller" under Other Devices.

Vista does not install the drivers on this Dell Optiplex GX520 with the
Intel 82945G Express Chipset.

I tried uninstalling the Lakeport Controller, rebooting and reinstall, but
it still has the Yellow ! dot.

I wish I could just get a Vista Driver from Intel and install it.

Not sure what to do now, but MS should talk to Dell about this.

I reformated and reinstalled and have the same problems.

Yellow dot ! on video controller, Lakerport and Multimedia.

I see that Lang Murphy had the same dots on the same item for his GX620.

I'll try installing the XP drivers from Dell for this box.

Hmmm... can't look at my GX620 right now... KVM went south and two computers
started beeping like mad so had to shut them down so as not to wake the
family at a late hour (lost 1 hour's documentation work on one... grrrrrr).
Have to wait until the morning to mess with it.

That said, there must be a difference, maybe BIOS, between the 520 and the
620... installed fine on the 620.

When I get the KVM back up tomorrow morning I'll take a gander...

SUCESS!

I downloaded the XP video controller driver from Dell, extracted the files,
then went to Device Manager, picked install new drivers, then went to the
location of the extracetd files.

BOOO YAAAA!

It started installing and when finished, the video controller yellow dot
went away and the Lakeport went away too :-(

Now under Display Adapters there are TWO listings for "Intel 82945G Express
Chipset Family". (which is correct) but how do I get Lakeport back?

What to do now.

Oh, I still have a yellow dot on the "Multi Media Audio Controller"

I am going to see if I can download something else to get the Audio
controller to work and get Lakeport back.

TIA

Ok, I installed the audio on and got rid of the yellow dot.

I can't get the Lakeport to work.

Instead, I have Intel 82945G chipset family under display adapter in device
manager.

Everytime I install the Lakeport, it has a yellow dot.

I saw this post, and it is exactly the problem I am having. My video
controller and media controller show up under Other. The Lakeport appears to
work fine, I just get this "New hardware found" everytime I reboot. Did you
evet resolve this?
