No video picture received on my PC. Sound only. No sound
on other PC. Video only. Both XP, not networked,
firewalls are both UPnP complaint, Zone Labs ZoneAlarm
not running. Any other explanation???

Greetings,

Firstly, make sure both you and your contact have gone through the Audio (and Video) Tuning
Wizard in Messenger. To do so, open the main Messenger window, click the Tools menu, then
Audio Tuning Wizard, then go through the wizard to select and test your audio/video devices.

Although the built-in Internet Connection Firewall is entirely compatible with Messenger and
should automatically open the correct ports for this type of communication, in some cases
this functionality can be broken, and as such, both you and your contact should verify that
the Windows XP Internet Connection Firewall isn't on -- click Start, then click the Control
Panel. If you're in category view click Network and Internet connections then click Network
Connections. Right click your network/internet connection, then click Properties. Click the
Advanced Tab, and verify that the Internet Connection Firewall is unchecked.

Also, you and your contact might try turning off the QoS Packet Scheduler. To do so,
click Start, then click the Control Panel. If you're in category view click Network and
Internet connections then click Network Connections. Right click your network/internet
connection, then click Properties. Uncheck the QoS Packet Scheduler, then reboot and try
again.

Bit of an after thought this, but do both parties have
to use the same application? Both Windows Messenger OR
both MSN Messenger????

Hi,

Actually the answer to this is based on what functionality you're using. Audio is compatible
through the versions but MSN Messenger 6 has some new video support that requires another MSN
Messenger 6 client. However, the MSN Messenger 6 client can initiate and accept the
older-style video functionality that is in Windows Messenger and you've already indicated the
video is working.
