I would like to copy a small clip from a DVD movie (the "Houston, we
have a problem" segment from Apollo 13) onto my hard drive so I can use
it as the opening slide in a ppt presentation. Need help on how to
record the clip from the DVD in the correct format. Thanks! Brian

First you need a computer or a device capable of capturing video. Short of that, there is no way to extract any part of a DVD. You'll need to play the DVD on one device - while recording the audio and video signals into your computer. Then those signals need to be processed into an "avi" or "mpeg" file that can be inserted into PowerPoint. There are also issues of compression, playback codecs, hardware processor speed, etc. etc., that all influence how that's done

My honest best suggestion is give the DVD to someone who is set up for this - it will take them 5 minutes. For you to learn to do it will cost at least $100 in hardware and a couple hours - minimum - figuring out the software.

You may find OnStage from Visible Light useful.

But after playing with it I had to reformat my computer, though this may not
have been anything to do with it!
