Video CD options?

A yoga group would like to make an inexpensive training video for internal
distribution. Questions:

- How much 1024X768 (or thereabouts) video fits on a regular CD-R?

- Can we start with tape from someone's home DV camera? Can the standard
16-year-old techie do the transfer if only cutting is needed, or is this a
pro job?

- What program options (e.g. QuickTime) are compatible with both Windows and
Mac?

Simple answers just to dis/confirm practicality, or guidance to a good
elementary web site, would be appreciated.

Thanks!

What would be the purpose of a Yoda group? I thought there was only one
Yoda. I can't imagine that Yoda gets his training from a video tape.

Dogma, Your best option is to use the mpeg1 video cd format, which is
considerably lower resolution that 1024x768, but should be playable on most
computers (PC or MAC), some games consoles, and most set top DVD players.
You'll need a video camera to capture the source, one with DV out would be
best, then you need to transfer to your PC.

If using a DV camera, you can just import direct from the camera in Windows
Movie Maker, but if not, then you'll need a video capture card and
appropriate capture software.

You can find guides for the conversion process here:

www.papajohn.org has some very good tutorials on using Windows Movie Maker,
well worth a visit :)
