Hey,

I am running XP Home on a HP PC. I can't seem to be able
to get any games to work, so I want to check out what
kind of video card I have, but I have know idea how to do
that. Can somebody please give me step-by-step
instructions on how to find out? Thanks!!

Hello Friend,

Here are a few ways to identify which video card you have
installed on your computer.

1. Click Start / Run / type: dxdiag
Click the Display Tab
Look under Device for the name and manufacturer

2. Click Start / (Settings) Control Panel
Click Display
Click the Settings Tab
Click the Advanced... button
Click the Adapter Tab

3. Click Start / Run / type: msinfo32
Click on the + Components
Click on Display to see the name on the right

4. Run Aida32 to see what Video, Chipset and Motherboard
you have: http://www.aida32.hu/aida-download.php?bit=32

5. Get the information from the manufactures website (or store)

6. Look on the Video card itself if you plug into a card, or

7. Look in your Motherboard manual if you plug into the
on board video built into the motherboard of your computer.

Hope that helps you identify the make and model of your video card,
and afterwards, Try updating your Video drivers using these steps:

Easiest way to see is go to your desktop, right click, go
to properties, then settings. Where it shows your
options for the display there will be your graphics card,
or your basic card that came with the computer. It is a
drop box so you could probably drop to see any other
options there. The graphics card you want running should
be selected in that box. Make sure it is also running on
at least 16 bit, because most games other than extremely
old ones won't work on anything less.

Right click on a blank area of desktop, click Properties,
then Settings. You should see info about yr monitor and
your graphics card. If not, or even if you do, click on
Advanced and you will see a series of tabs. Click on the
one that says 'Adapter' and you should see more detailed
info about yr card, including what drivers it's using &
when they were installed and/or updated. Hope this helps.

P.S. What you can then do is tap yr card's details into a
Google box & play around with things like '+ rubbish'
or '+ can't play' or whatever until you get a useful forum
thread.

Good luck.

.
START - Right click on My Computer - click on properties -
click tab on hardware - click Device Manager - click the
plus sign next to Display adapters. The item below this
will tell you the chip set your video card is using.
