I am using a 7800 ATI all in wonder and would like to step up to a 256mb
Directx 9 card with the "least" expense. Could someone please help me (I
know this is an ASUS board) I am using an ASUS A7V600 3200XP processor with
2 sticks of 512, 3200ddr. The reason is that I want to use a HDTV wonder
instead.

Try shoplifting. ;-)

The least expensive 256 MB DX9 cards that I know of use the nVidia FX5200
chipset. You'll find some listed at www.newegg.com for less than $100 (US).
The Radeon 9550 cards are similar in price, and may be ATI's lowest-end DX9
products. (I believe the 9200 series are basically updated Radeon 8500
cards, which are DX 8.1.) I don't know whether the FX5200 or the Radeon 9550
has better performance. ATI is known for its hardware acceleration support
for video, though.

What do you wish to use it for, other than viewing HDTV? The 5200 has an
unfavorable reputation among gamers, and I doubt that anything but 3D games
benefits from 256 MB of video RAM. If you want a gamer's card, check some
reviews at www.anandtech.com.

Good luck.
