i just recently built a new system from quality parts
bought online.

Antec SLK3700BQE /w 350W PS
Abit IC7-G motherboard
P4c 3.0 processor
1024 (2x512) mushkin CL 2-3-3-6 pc3500 ram
AIW raedon 9800pro 128mb video/capture card
samsung 160GB 7200rpm SATA hard drive
cd drives are unimportant for this.

my first video card was defective so i had to use an old
nvidia card until mine was returned. when i received my
new video card, the tv tuner was not working at all. i
uninstalled drivers and restarted so i could install the
newest from ati. on restart, windows installed drivers
automatically, i then installed the newest ones from ati
as well as the newest software suite. after this the tv
tuner was still not working, after talking with tech
support, he emailed me a patch that had helped some users,
the instructions were confusing for install, im not
compleatly sure i got it right. after the tv tuner still
wouldnt work, i realized it was set for antenna and not
cable (it had been set for cable before, but when i
reinstalled the software it did not prompt me for some
reason). anyway, that fixed the problem, the tv tuner
woorked great and the video card was amazing, except for
one problem. the next day after reinstalling the new
drivers and patch, i was watching tv and browsing the web,
and i wanted to bring the tv to top of my desktop, when i
clicked the minimized window for tv, there was a delay,
then the monitor simply lost signal and went blank. the
sound from the tv was still comming through the speakers,
but the screen was blank and there was no response from
the keyboard when i tried to put into sleep mode. my only
option was to push the restart button. this has happened
every day since then (3 days). is this a driver issue?
another bad video card? some other hardware failure? a
windows glitch? if i have to i will reformat and start
fresh, but id prefer not to. someone please help me with
this problem. im out of ideas.

.

Check the card properties and see if there is a button somewhere for
restore error messages or somthing like that. Look in Even Viewer logs
for errors that might be related. Maybe there is a clue there. It looks
like video card, but it could be anything hardware-related.

Get all the newest mainboard and chipset drivers, you might also go to
ATI and get the latest Catalyst and try that. This is a new ATI card
and maybe the driver is the problem. The "patch" is suspicious, too.
Perhaps there is a fault in the card that the patch cannot really
correct?

You might try posting on alt.comp.periphs.videocards.ati. Perhaps someone
there has seen this problem.
