Firstly.

GeForce4 MX440 DDR 64MB AGP 8x w/TV ou
Windows XP pr

My problem is that games aren't displaying correctly, strange black streaks on the walls of games, flashing lights, colours not shown correctly. I've tried rolling back the driver, (I have the newest one). A strange thing is that it worked when I had WinME, but when I upgraded to XP, things went weird. I've also tested the video card in another computer that was very similar to mine running on Win2000 Pro and it worked. My best guess now is to reformat and install Win2000 Pro unless someone might know the answer. Any feedback would be most appreciated. Thanks, Aaron
PS: If anyone knows how to reformat from XP to 2000, a little help? 8-)

I had major problems with my family's machine when i switched it from ME to XP. According to one of my friends who builds computers for a living, Windows ME is/was THE WORST operating system. I agree with him solely on the fact that more often than not, the computer would blue screen when i would try shutting it down.

Anyway, when you upgrade, any and all problems that your machine had before the switch get copied over. All the upgrade really does as far as i can tell is makes everything look pretty (for lack of better words). If you have the full version disc of Windows XP Pro, i suggest finding a help file that will guide you step through step on what's called a "clean install", print it out, and follow its instructions (unless you feel you're computer savvy enough to have no troubles doing it yourself). If, however, you have an upgrade only CD, i guess the steps aren't a whole lot different, other than you should have a legitimate, full version of XP Home, Windows ME, Windows 2000, or Windows 98 (i use an upgrade disc of XP Home on my family computer, and i haven't needed a previous version so far).

Other than that, all i can think of to tell you is to back up anything that can't be replaced, such as documents. I find that the machine is much more reliable in just about all aspects when a clean install is performed, and i may just be biased in my opinion, but I have yet to find a better Windows operating system more reliable and more worthwhile than XP.

Good luck :) Lemme know how it goes.
