Video card problem

Hello I just installed Windows Vista Premium on my Emachine M5312 laptop. I
am having issues with my video card. It is a Radeon IGP 320M. When I go into
device manager in Vista there is an error code 12 displayed in the device
status. It looks like the driver is failing to load and it is defaulting to a
generic driver by using VGA save. When I researched this I have found that
other users are having the same problem. It seems that other hardware on my
laptop is using the same memory resources as my video card. In this case it
seems to be the "PCI standard PCI-to-PCI bridge". I believe other users were
able to solve this kind of issue with a BIOS update but I dont believe there
is one out for my motherboard and would like to find an alternative solution
because of the risk involved with a flash. Does anyone have any suggestions?
I don't believe this is a driver issue but a memory addressing problem.

My laptop has a Radeon IGP 340M with same error code. However, mine shows
the driver is loaded, but says:

"This device cannot find enough free resources that it can use. (Code 12)
If you want to use this device, you will need to disable one of the other
devices on this system."

Same as yours???

I've tried disabling "other devices" but makes no difference! I assume this
is lack of video-specific memory?

Hey Mike,

Yes this is the same exact problem that I am having. The problem is that
Vista is sharing out video memory resources that should only be assigned to
the onboard video card. The sharing\conflict is occuring with the PCI to PCI
bridge. I had to reload XP but I plan to put Vista up as a second OS again
soon. If you come across any fixes let me know.

EVER had a dual-boot on any of my PC's but that's what I plan to do now! I'm
no expert, but I gather from reading through these very-helpful posts is that
I must install XP Pro to the C: and Vista on the extended (D:) partition!
Hope I got that right, 'cos that's what I'm about to do!

Hi Johnny,

Looks like we are thinking alont the same lines; I've NEVER had a dual boot
system on any of my PC's but that's what I'm about to try! I gather from
reading these very helpful posta is that I must install XP Pro to C: and
Vista to the extended (D:) partition! Hope I got that right as I'm about to
start that now! And if I find a way round this, I'll let you know too!

Hope you're still monitoring this for answers.

I've sorted it out on my laptop!

Entered the BIOS. Selected ADVANCED. Scolled down to UMA FRAME BUFFER SIZE
and changed it from the default (32meg) to 64meg! Sorted! All resources now
assigned; no conflicts.
