I work for a stock trading company that uses it's own proprietary
software for trading. We are trying to determine how much video cards
will affect overall system performance and what specifically we should
look for in a video card that would have the largest impact on that
performance. Our apps do not do any 3D effects, shading or lighting
effects like video games. We do see lots of activity causing various
windows to require painting near continuously. What specifically about
video cards is likely to have the largest impact on performance? Is it
just the amount of Video RAM, the GPU speed, the number of pixel
pipelines, something else? Any good recommendations on cards that
would likely be most effective?

Thanks in advcance for any information

Your requirements for a video card will extremely low....and inexpensive.
Pixel pipelines, GPU speed, large amounts of high speed video RAM are just a
waste for your needs. The integrated video on most Dell type boxes is more
than adequate. Cards in the X1300 series or 6200 series are "high end" for
your needs.
