I'm ready to buy a new Graphics card for 2D business type work, no fancy
3D games. I've had Matrox cards in the past and am now considering
their P650. However, for $160 I'm wondering what ATI or Nvida might
have that is as good as Matrox for 2D. Your opinions please.

TIA, Jerry

I am wondering what kind of business work you are doing that requires a $
160 vidio card.

Business is my way of saying I don't play games so I don't need 3D.

matrox is considered the best card for 2D.

but if you are on a budget, you can get the nvida 5200 or ati's 9200.

A Matrox G400 or G550 would be more than sufficient, and both cards are
available at *low* prices on eBay. (The G550 is going for around $50 and the
G400 and G400 MAX are going for around $25.) You get the very best 2D
available without spending a fortune. In fact, why even spend the $160 for
the Matrox P650?

ATI is a fairly close second, after Matrox, for 2D speed and quality at high
resolutions, but an ATI card is still not a Matrox card. ;-)

I have an ATI Radeon 9600 Pro in my current rig. The only reason it's not a
Matrox is that my son and I play the occasional 3D game on my system... and
the games are generally pretty heavy duty, like Star Wars Jedi Academy and
Jedi Outcast, Star Trek Elite Force 2, etc.
