Video Card Adjustments

What would be a good video card that would allow me to adjust Gamma,
contrast, refresh rate etc? I realize most of them have a refresh rate
setting. But it seems some have more options than others.

I need a card I can adjust to help compensate for my overly sensitive
eyes. I recently borrwed a friend's self built comp and realized his
video card on my monitor hardly bothered my eyes at all (at the default
set.). While my retail HP really gave me eye strain headaches to the
point I had to drop the gamma and brightness settings way down just to
use it. (made the pic real dark)

So, obviously the quality of the video card has something to do with
this.

Not sure if I'll be self building though. But when I see some of 'duh'
people locally who are doing so and getting it right, I think it can't
be that difficult.

OK, we need a lot more information. First, does your HP have AGP or
PCI-Express or what? Does it even HAVE an expansion slot for a video card,
or is it using built-in video on the mainboard? Also, IF the mainboard has
a PCI-Express video card expansion slot, is the power supply of that HP
system PCI-Express compatible? That may sound like an odd question, but HP
ships PCI-Express systems WITHOUT power supplies with PCI-Express
connectors!!! Oh, and HP also ships really weak power supplies with their
retail build systems. So we need to know the exact amp ratings on each rail
of your power supply also. If you can't find that, post the exact make and
model number of the power supply.

Basically, we have nowhere near enough information to help you. Even if we
could recommend a video card for you, there is a good chance that we'll need
to recommend a power supply to run it, also. -Dave

I really do not know. I will look around and see what I can find and
put a video up just for you.
