have a brand new sony vaio pcvrs720g comp,using a jvc grd33us vidcam,no
matter which sotware i use, computer will operate functions of camera fine, but
will not capture video.have contacted sony twice,they don't have a clue.maybe
someone at microsoft has run into it?

Thanks.Yes,tried firewire, decided after talking with sony I neede to use
their I-link port,bought a cable,tried it last night ,same result.As long as
you're listening,and seem interested(thanks again)I bought the vaio a month
ago just to do dv cam movie work. It's frustrating that it doesn't work.I hae
WMM.roxio,nero DVgate,and Ulead.All 5 softwares do the same thing.Control my
cam functions(play, rewind, etc)all work up to and including clicking to
capture.The cam plays,but nothing in preview windows,no counter operates,and
when I stop it,or let it finish, whetherI capture by batch, time or the whole
tape,as soon as it stops I get an error message, along the lines"No video or
clips captured, chek video source and computer configuration".I get no
capture.Have tried every fix I can find,nothing helps.If you can I'll be
forever in your debt.By the way,I still have my old Dell hooked up,it works
great,so I know it's not just my cam.The processor is too slow to burn
dvd's,so I got the viao.

Thanks,Tracy.

Not suprising, given that I-link *is* firewire.

you seem to know more than. I am trying to connect an analog cam to my sony
computer it appears I should use the yellow i.link however I believe I read
where there is a voltage on this connection, even so do you think it is save
to to plug the video from camcorder into connection
sorry I couldn't help with your problem

Analogue cams do not have i-link connections. The yellow connector you refer
to is the analogue composite out. To capture from an analogue cam
succesfully you'll need an analogue to digital convertor, which will accept
the yellow/red/white video/audio signals and convert to digital and will
have a firewire lead out to the pc if you choose an external model.
