I am not able to capture video using the ArcSoft software. I have a Panasonic PV-DV400 and windows XP. I have tried to get drivers downloaded on my PC, but its not helping. When I connect via IEEE, it does not give me a pop up window, so it just does not seem to recognize my camcorder. Any help would be greatly appreciated

Download Windows Movie Maker 2.0, you can download it for
free from any download site (e.g. www.download.com) and
it is much better than the arcsoft software. I have
tried both.

i appreciate the advice. I downloaded moviemaker and it still can not detect the device. I am wondering if I have a problem w/my IEEE somehow, the PC is just not detecting it at all. the cable I have is about 3 yrs. old, have they changed the standard in the last 3 years? I am grasping here I know.

Right click on My Computer and right click on Properties. From the Hardware
tab, click on Device Manager.

There will be two entries for the firewire card.... one under Network
Adapters and one under IEEE 1394 Bus Host Controllers.

Click on Network Adapters. Find the entry 1394 Net Adapter and right click
on it. Select Disable (unless you are networking via firewire!)

Reboot the PC.

Go back in the Device Manager. That 1394 Net Adapter should now have a red
X over it. Leave it that way.

Reconnect the firewire cable to the firewire card and connect it to the
PV-DV400. Ensure there is a tape in the camcorder. Turn the camcorder on
in VCR mode. Does XP pick it up and install the driver?

If not, wiggle the cable going into the camcorder. There may be a bad port
or cable connection at that end.
