I have several vhs tapes of my mom and dad who have passed
on and I would like to put them on DVD for storage. I am
using XP home. I have an external DVD burner so my problem
is getting the vhs to my computer. Can anyone recommend
either a video capture card or a new video card that would
meet my needs? I currently use an MX 440 video card and
would rather just add another card instead of replacing my
video card but I won't rule out that option. My vhs tapes
are about 15 years old and they are starting to worry me
about breaking from getting old. I want to try to get the
best picture quality I can. I would be running them from a
vcr or my analog camcorder to any capture device. Any help
would be appreciated. Thanks!

I copy VHS tapes to external DVD burner all the time. I
have an ALL In Wonder 8500 ATI Display adaptor, an USB 2.0
HP200e DVD burner, Windows XP (with SP1), an Intel
SE7505VP2 motherboard. My only problem is the video tape
machines delivering high quality horizontal sync to the
All In Wonder card. The older tape machines work best.
They took circuit design shortcuts with the newer machines
resulting in horizontal tearing with some of the VHS
tapes. Otherwise it works quite well. I notice that the
horizontal circuits in the older TV sets work much better
too!
