Hi

I have a 128 DDR ATI Radeon 9700 TX with TV out. What do I need in order to
capture video from an older (non-firewire equiped) 8mm video camera?

Thanks

Manoj

ATI wise? ATI Wonder Pro.
Non-ati? Various usb/serial/parallel capture devices like the Dazzle.

Your present video card won't do you a bit of good for video capturing, but
you have a couple different choices. You can get an ATI All-In-Wonder card,
which will have composite video input and S-Video inputs as well as a built-in
tuner. The audio source would be the line-in of your sound card. You can also
get a device such as the Dazzle and similar devices, but I highly suggest
getting something that connects to your computer with either USB 2.0 or
firewire. If you don't have either of those ports, you can get a USB 2.0 /
Firewire combo card for about $35 these days. If you try using such a device
with a USB 1.1 port, you'll be greatly limited to the speed and size of video
captures you can do because of the slow speed of USB 1.1
I presently use my ATI AIW Radeon 7500 for capturing composite video from
VHS tapes and my camcorder connects via a Firewire port on the combo card I
installed.
