Video Capture Problem - MiniDV

Regardless of setting, all of my video is not being captured from my Sharp
MiniDV. For example, when I select 'Start Capture', my video will be on 20
seconds while I've only captured 1 second of video. If I attempt to capture
a lot of video then try to play it back, it appears as though I'm watching it
in fast-forward.

Can anybody help?

Hi Greg,

Ive had the same problem too, I suspect since upgrading to Movie Maker 2 (Im
not a frequent Movie Maker user, BTW. I suspect that its the MM2 upgrade
because I never had this problem before that).

I have been reading other forums that indicate if you have a nvidia graphics
card a disply driver upgrade may be required for MM2.
Known Issues
Video not captured successfully with NVIDIA video card
installed
Video may not be previewed or captured successfully using >the Video Capture Wizard in Windows Movie Maker 2 if an >NVIDIA video card is installed on your computer. If you >encounter this issue, install the latest NVIDIA device >driver software for Microsoft Windows XP through the >Windows Update Web site. After updated drivers have been >installed, try capturing video again using the Video
Capture Wizard in Windows Movie Maker 2.

Im using a Toshiba Satellite notebook 5105-S607 with nvidia GEForce4 440 Go,
and there is a Toshiba download available from Toshiba service site. I did
install this but it didnt seem to correct this jutty 'sped up' video capture
(my cam is a Sony BTW) so Im keen to read what advice you get in this forum.
I did also check out the nvidia site, which has loads of info, too much for
me in fact to navigate around through with confidence that Ill find the exact
right upgrade needed, and how to install it.

Im betting your question a common request for help!

Hello,

You may be using USB rather than Firewire. DV HAS to be captured using a
firewire connection. Your camera manual may describe the process to you.

Hi John,

thanks for your response - I hope that this can solve Greg's problem.
Unfortunately firewire has been systematically used for my DV video capture,
both pre (succesfull capture) and post MovieMaker2, so that isnt the cause
for me.

Greg, can you rule out firewire vs USB? or indeed do you know if you have an
nvidia graphics card? are you using MovieMaker 2?

Any other ideas to help faultfind, John? I could go back to original Movie
Maker, to determine that it captures ok again...what do you think?

your help is much appreciated!

Dave

I am using firewire to capture the video with Movie Maker Version 2.0.3312.0.
My XP machine is using a via/s3g unichrome video card.
