video capture devices

Has anyone tried using a Hauppauge WinTV usb external capture device or a
Mercury TV Tuner card(made by a company called KOBIAN), with winXP. If so
were they successful.

I've connected my Sony digital 8 camcorder through
WinTV. The quality is miserable compared to using a
firewire (which is what I have been using since I bought
an IEEE 1394 card bus). The odd thing about it was it
would give me all sorts of errors along the way and it
involved openning Movie maker then WinTV or the other way
around, but it would work anyway. Yes, I was successful.
