Video capture device not detected

I just recently bought a new PC with Windows XP and was looking forward to the newfound power and latest version on Windows (XP) - had 98. The only thing my PC didn't come with was a ieee 1394 Firewire card, which I had been using just fine on my Win98, so I decided to pop it into the new PC, when low and behold, it wasn't recognizing my DV camcorder. In the device manager, the card was showing up and working properly, but I was still getting that annoying "video capture device not detected" I was only to find one suggestion on this site about disabling the "1394 Net adapter" - if not using, which I did, and still nothing. This seems to be a common thing for XP users and I hope that someone out there can at least point me into the right direction..

Thanks
Brian

I have same problem Purchased a PC last year Windows XP
have posted on other sites and still have not found an
answer. What I usually do is download via "My DVD"
software that came with my camera. I'll be looking for any
help also. You ar not alone. Ray

Brian,

Check that your firewire capture card is OHCI compliant. If not, it won't
work with Windows XP® and/or MM. Use Control Panel > System > Hardware >
Device Manager > IEEE 1394 Bus host controllers

Now I´ve tested with a third camcorder, Sony DCR-PC110E, and no trouble with that one ! It is listed as Image device. So, some cameras are working with my computer and others don´t. But still, the one that doesn´t work with my computer (the Canon) is working with my friends´computer. Confusing...
Anyway, the movie is now captured.
Have you tried different camera models, Brian ?
