video capture conflict

Windows XP SP-2

Using Nero (trial version 7) or Sony Movie Studio(trial version 7 platinum
or Movie Studio trial version 6).
When I want to capture a video clip from an external source (DVD player)
through a capture card (Video Advantage PCI), Windows shuts down.
Windows actually shuts down when the external source is powered up.

(This problem does not occur when using Cyberlink Power Producer V 3)

Where is the conflict and what can I do to prevent this shutdown?

Thanks,

Ken

That points to your power supply being insufficient.

Let us know about your entire system components (all hardware like RAM,
mobo, hard drives, Power Supply brand, watts, etc.). The more details you
give us the better we are able to help you.

While you may be pushing the limits of your power supply as someone else
suggested, you have one program that the same process works with. To me,
this sounds more like a software problem with the Nero and Sony
applications. Either the applications themselves are less than stellar or
they conflict with something else (hardware or software) on your system.

Might check in Event Viewer to see if it is capturing any error information
that you might not be seeing on screen. Also would post this same question
in the Nero forums and, if Sony has user forums, post there too.
