I was trying to capture video onto moviemaker from my panasonic gs250
videocamera, but it kept on saying the driver that came on the cd wasn't safe
to use(in the instructions it says this is for windows98 only, that windows
xp, which i have, already had the driver installed) So i did the windows
update thing hoping it would give me the right driver, now I can get to the
capture video screen, but nothing shows up, only a black screen. Whats wrong
with my computer?

Hello,

There is probably nothing wrong with your computer.

A large amount of software displays the message you refer to when
installing it. Its because the company that created the software refuse to
pay the very high cost of certification that Microsoft demands. It does not
mean that the software is in any way dangerous. When you get those kind of
messages ask yourself...

1) How old is this software
2) Is this software from a reputable company

If the software is several years old then it may not have been written with
XP in mind and "might" be a problem

In general, you should always use the software that came with your hardware
unless you have a good reason not to, one very good reason is the
manufacturer of the hardware has an update available. Do not fall into the
trap of thinking the microsoft driver must be the best

Hi,
If you are using the IEEE1394 interface to capture your movies, you should
not need any additional drivers to capture in MovieMaker. Is video getting
written when you capture? If so, make sure that the do not show preview
button is unchecked in the capture wizard. If you are trying to get video
off of your SD card, that video is MPeg4 and can be copied via the USB2
interface directly to the computer.
Good Luck,
