video cam

I have a video cam that was installed in old pc. It had win95 and upgraded to win98. The cam always worked.
Now I have tried to install it to my laptop that uses WinXP.
I will install the software but will not recognize the cam. I guess not compatable with WinXP.
It there something I can do?
This company that made the cam is no longer in business......NewCom.
Is there something to upgrade or do....or am I stuck with a cam because it was out before WinXP?
