I've read a lot of treads about audio/video connection
with Windows Messenger, but never found an answer. So,
before reading further, if you know where the answer
stands, please, advise me.

I can make a connection from my US site to a European
site. No LAN: only 2 Windows XP Pro.
- I can chat.
- I can take control of the other PC for remote
assistance. I can receive files from the other site.
- I can't send a file to the other site. Response after
some time is: "We could not send this file because the
connection is blocked. Please contact your network
administrator or Internet service provider; they may be
able to enable file transfers." Of course, both service
providers wash their hands swearing they don't filter any
Windows Messenger traffic.
- I can't use the whiteboard.
- The most important issue for me is that "Start camera"
and "Start talking" don't work. The video windows stay
black on both sites and the attempt terminates with: "The
voice conversation with [username] has ended."

Two weeks ago I made a test with both sites within the
same European Internet service provider. All worked fine.
I activate / deactivate the Symantec personal firewall.
No change.
On both sites the Creative WebCam NX Ultra (VFW) Audio
tuning wizard works fine.

Jonathan Kay: can you help ?

Many thanks.

Here's how I solved this problem: just have a look at:
http://www.microsoft.com/technet/treeview/default.asp?
url=/technet/prodtechnol/winxppro/deploy/worki01.asp
there you'll find a technical explanation of WM
communications.
In my case I just made a connection with PPoE instead of
connecting through my IP portal (Bellsouth).
Connection was instantaneous. Bright image and fantastic
sound !!!
Dan.
