I am troubleshooting an interesting problem with a family
members machine. I have two sisters, one on the east
coast and one on the west coast, who keep in contact
using either Instant messaging or video chat. Recently
one sister upgraded from Windows ME to a new machine
using Windows XP Pro. Prior to the upgrade they could
connect using AOl Instant Messaging or using an Intel
Video camera software for video conversations. The
Windows XP machine is using a Linksys router for internet
connectivity. After the computer upgrade when the two
machines try to connect for either a voice conversation
or a video conversation one machine will "ring" the other
but when eiother sister trys to "accept" either the video
or the audio conversation the connection fails
immediately and disconnects. No changes were made to the
router and the new machine is using the old machines IP
numbers. When one machine calls the other the machine
receives the request properly but when you try and accept
the call it disconnects. I believe the router is working
correctly because the proper machines get the appropriate
call request. Is there a setting I am missing to make
these calls worj again in Windows XP? Any suggestions
would be appreciated.
Thanks
