Hi all,

I have a friend with an XP machine in a truck. When
he goes over bumpy roads the computer crashes. Can
XP be installed on say a usb silicon based hd that will
not be suseptable to the bumpy roads? Any other
ideas?

thanks,
charles......

WinXp cannot be installed on an external drive
There are PC's that are built specifically to be 'rugged/withstand shock'

Solid State drives.
Dell has several laptop models available with 32GB drives like these in
them - cost you an extra $500 or so, however.

Can I get that technology to work in an Intel clone motherboard?

google will list plenty, including solid state hard drives - be prepared to
shell out plenty $

looks like it. but you will be trading off speed and possibly limited
read/write cycle.

32GB 2.5-inch solid-state drives. Samsung announced its 2.5-inch 32-gig
drive last year at the show, and now SanDisk is getting in on the act, with
the big news being its $350 price.
Seems like just yesterday SanDisk rolled out its $600 1.8-inch 32GB SSD (it
was in early January), but this 2.5-inch form factor is significant because
it fits right in where more of those spinning hard drives have been firmly
ensconced for the past few years. It's a drop-in replacement Serial ATA
(SATA) drive, and at these prices, it looks like the revolution moving away
from moving parts is well underway. - Charlie
