<Snipped garbage>

I'd hoped you'd been banned by Google and maybe even put on probation by
your IP by now.

Would a few of the more responsible readers join me in exerting a little
community pressure, please.

I'm not sure that Google had good records before, but they just
recently (as in the last day or so, AFAICT) started adding more info to
the headers, including a hash of the account he's using. Hopefully
you'll have better luck now. Headers now also show the poster's IP;
(e-mail address removed) is the address to use.

Thanks. I just noticed a change this morning in Gmail posts but hadn't
investigated yet. Nice to have a little more information included in the
header.

Not so nice to see such a bland auto bot response from the abuse dept:

Thank you for your note. Google does not regularly monitor or censor
postings sent to Google Groups, but we do try to prevent wide-scale spam
and other forms of Usenet abuse. However, please be assured that
information you sent to us is being collected and taken into account.
While we understand how annoying off-topic posts can be, we aren't able
to pursue most complaints we receive about them. We are using the
information you provide to make large-scale improvements in preventing
abuse. We appreciate your help in our efforts to increase the quality of
Google Groups.

A step above the COTSE abuse auto response, I suppose, but it hardly
inspires confidence.

Aye. I don't expect Google to monitor posts in general, even ones from
Gmail subscribers. I do expect any mail provider to evaluate complaints
about posts that originate from a customer.

I suppose I should emphasize "evaluate" since I suspect that, like lawsuits,
counterclaims are frequent (although even more prevalent since they are so
easy). I'm probably collecting complaints from dozens of bogus users and
some providers can react oddly. Henq's experience after a simple, obviously
misplaced, warez accusation is sobering. If it can happen to such a
worthwhile, established, widely referenced site, my measly email ID and ISP
account are doomed.

It's a pretty bad situation. Your choices are pretty limited, but you
can be anyone you want to (spoof) be. Ever consider taking one of the
sock puppet handles and making good, informative, on topic posts with
it? <G>

You got a laugh from me there! I like the plan. Systematically ruin
the troll-and-vandal image they work so hard on. It would probably
really frustrate them.

Wouldn't work. Lots of trolls use a "one man Mutt and Jeff" routine to
establish credibility.
