Hello,

I own the NVTV Single Tuner Card and have it installed in a Windows Media
Center 2005 PC. Everything with MCE works fine.

I have some home movies on VHS that I want to transfer to DVD. I'm using
Windows Movie Maker Version 2.1.4026.0 on Windows XP MCE 2005 with Service
Pack 2 installed. When I try to capture video from the VCR in Windows Movie
Maker, I receive the following errors:

1. The video device is currently in use. Close any other application that is
using the device and try again.
2. The video device cannot be used at this time because there has been an
error when starting the device.

::: What I've tried :::
I searched this forum, other forums (yes, PapaJohn's was one of them), and
the Microsoft Knowledge Base. Microsoft has article that recommends
temporarily disabling a Media Center Receiver service. I tried this and
rebooted, but it did not work.

::: Setup :::
I have the VCR connected directly to the NVTV card using RCA cables. The red
and white audio cables connect to a stereo-mini adapter and that plugs into
the audio-in jack on the card. The yellow video cable connects to the
RCA/S-Video cable and that plugs into the video-in jack on the card.

I'm at a loss. Any ideas? Do I need to purchase a separate, external
break-out box to connect my VCR? A new capture card? Why is this not working?
I welcome your feedback.

Thanks.

I'm having the exact same problem with the same errors. There are no other
programs open to be using the device. I do know that I am getting both audio
and video because when I push my monitor in button (and the vcr is playing),
I can watch it, just like when the vcr is hooked to a regular television.
But, neither windows encoder or windows movie maker will recognize the
signal.

Hi James;
I was reading over your post and I have a thought on this. The NVidia TV
tuner card came with bundled applications, including a DVR function. If you
have the DVR functions installed and enabled anything that is connected to
that card may be labeled "In Use" because the PVR application is reserving
them for it's use. Have you tried using the PVR function of the NVTV to
record the VCR, and then making a movie from the PVR recording? This is what
I do with my Leadtek Winfast tuner that I have on my PC. I first record the
VHS with the PVR, and then make a movie of the PVR file.

Let me know.
Take care
Jeff
