Does any one know what I would need to convert home
videos in a VHS format to a DVD. I have a cd burner, but
don't know what else I would need.

In order for you to do this, you need a DVD burner (about $300.00), not a CD
burner. Yes, you could this with a CD burner. Not worth the effort, quality
will be poor and a CD can hold only 700MB. 700MB is nothing when you want
video. A DVD burner will use a DVD disk, 4.7MB, 7 times larger storage than
a CD, and one hour of video needs about 13MB. So going the CD route is a
very poor option. Not worth trying.
If you buy a DVD burner, the software to copy VHS to a DVD disk will come
with it. However, VHS is an analog signal, it will need to be converted to
digital, so you will need a card in your computer. You will connect the
output of the VHS player (just like you connect it to your TV) to this card,
to make a digital file from the VHS tape. Then you will be able to burn it
on a DVD disk in your DVD burner.
Yes it can be done, not that easy and not cheap.

Sorry, my post said a DVD disk will hold 4.7MG. I should have said 4.7GB,
The same thing for one hour video at 13MB. It is 13GB. Sorry for mixing MB
with GB.
