I have a old VHS take I want to transfer to my pc and edit it and then save
it on a DVD... What would I need to be able to transfer the video to my pc?

Thanks

Either
An external convertor box connected to the vhs and into the pc via firewire.
Canopus do the best, pinnacle the cheapest, depends on how many you want to
do and how easy you want it to be, pinnacle's dazzle sometimes has problems.
An internal pci convertor card again canopus are great.
A digital camcorder which supports analogue pass through.
Moviemaker 2.1 for pass through.
dvd authoring software.

Buy a DVR-VCR combo or just a DVR - you'll be buying one soon enough - and
copy your home movies to a DVD. For use with Moviemaker, you'll need to
convert the resultant files (e.g. VOB) to an AVI format so that they can be
imported into your Moviemaker project file, but there are numerous conversion
programs available. Messing with the video capture equipment is a needless
expense and involves equipment many people will only use once. The DVR is
something you will use again and again... a better way to spend your money.
