vhs tape protection

i am using my pc to record some of my old vhs tapes to dvd. some of my vhs
dates have some sort of protection. does anyone know how to get around vhs
tape protection? please help.

The classic method of copy protection with VHS tapes involved
the sync track. If one had studio gear, it was just a simple
matter of copying whilst using an external sync generator or
Gen-Loc.

Macrovision ?

Macrovision is a technique that fools the AGC circuitry on the standard RCA
input of a VCR which is why the picture would go dark from time to time and
at some points even go to a blue screen.

You could try using 2 VCR's. Play the VHS tape in one, run the ch.2/3/4 rf
output to the rf input of another VCR, and use the video/sound out form the
second VCR.
 
nice idea, but one issue. i just need another vcr for this. i only
have one.

A TV that has output jacks is another option. RF into the TV the use the
outputs on the TV.
