Solved my own problem. Removing the add-in card, re-
enabling the on-board video alowed me to get into Windows
and use System Restore. Moral of the story: always set a
Restore Point before mucking around, if muck you must!
 
I know this is a little late, but VGASave service is listed in Device Manager
under the Non-Plug and Play Drivers group. This is normally not displayed but
can be seen by enabling the "show hidden devices" under the View menu bar. From
there you should have been able to enable it.
