Very weird mouse behaviour

Hi all,

My system:
OS: Windows XP Professional SP3 (with all the latest automatic updates)
CPU: Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 @ 2.40 GHz
Memory: 2,00 GB
Video: nvidia GeForce 8800 GT
Monitors: 2 samsung SyncMaster 2232 BW
Mouse: Logitech LX5 cordless optical mouse
Keyboard: Logitech S 510

The problem:
My mouse (or something else) is acting very strange, at random intervals.

Sometimes, when my mouse is focussed on a window in my right screen and I
want to focus my mouse on a window in my left screen (for instance by
selecting the uppermost window bar), but it won't let me. If I type Alt+Tab
though, the window does get focus.

Also, sometimes the icons in Windows taskbar are unselectable and they don't
even show the hover effect (classic theme).

What's more, drag-n-drop doesn't work either sometimes.

Sometimes my mouse starts showing the circle with black up and down arrows
icon, indicating I am able to scroll by just moving the mouse, out of the
blue also.

And finally, sometimes I am not able to scroll by simply using the scroll
wheel.

Things I've tried to solve the problem:
Reinstall mouse, with latest drivers
Install latest videodrivers
Unplug my cordless mouse/keyboard receiver and put in another USB port.
Used multiple virusscanner to search for virusses (AVG, Bitdefender, Kapersky)
I even read somewhere that someone also had some mouseproblems due to a ESC
key being stuck. Tried that too, but looks like keys are oke too.

I could use some suggestions, since I am totally lost here. Thank you in
advance!

PS.: drag-n-drop problem: I am able to drag, but when I drop, the receiving
object doesn't acknowledge it. So nothing happens.

The problem was probably due to a broken mouse. Bought a new exact same
mouse, and the problem seems to have disappeared.
