Hi,

an (ex) employee has been stealing software from our servers (windows 2000)
using a USB 0.5 Gigabytes Hard Drive (in Windows XP SP1).

I must proof that that software from our servers has gone into his USB Hard
Drive.

Please, don't tell me that it is my fault because allowing installation of
USB Hard Drives... it was an employee that was recommended by a very
important friend.

Is there any log, event or anything where I can see a log of these
transfers?

This is quite urgent please....

Thanks.

Unless you have turned on auditing for file access then, no, the copying
will not have been logged.

How do you "know" he has been doing this? If you have proof, have him
arrested, press charges, and confiscate his hard drive for evidence. If you
are assuming, then you are helpless to do anything about it.

Bill Crocker

I know it because he's so smart that he tried to sell the software to a
developper of our company.

And he said, produly, that it was software stealed from here...

Before you go seeking legal advice, at least learn some basic spelling and
grammar.

A person who develops "whatever" is a developer.

And the software was "stolen" from you business...not "stealed".

If you expect to get any respect, you have to earn it. Speaking and
spelling like a 9th grader who only spends his time smoking weed will garner
you no support.

Thanks for your nice comment.

When a see a foreigner speaking my native language, catalan and spanish, I'm
usually happy of listening to foreigners speaking my language.

Since I speak, apart from catalan and spanish, italian and french very
fluently, and my english is basic, please, tell me how many languages do you
speak, apart from your mother tongue.

I'm waiting for your response.

Cap de suro.

I speak 3 other languages...I am retired State Department, and have lived
abroad while being employed as an interpreter and interrogator. My original
point still stands. You should be proud to speak several languages, but at
least use a spell checker when posting. When I read your post, I honestly
got the impression that you were fairly uneducated. My mother tongue is
English. I also speak Vietnamese, French and Arabic. I maintained a Level
3+ plus proficiency level in all three languages throughout my career. At
times, my Vietnamese was at a 4 to 4+ level.

em xem gif, em muoons gif thees!

Monsieur,

And I thought the Brits were arrogant. Your 'mother tongue' is
American. I hate to think what the Yanks would have done to Deutch
is the vote had gone the other way. P.S. not everyone has a foreign
language spell checker installed!

There is no such language as as 'American', that's a nationality...
American's speak English (mostly), they just can't spell it too well :)

As I was once told by a New York cabbie "If yous'e tink dat - yous
don't know English from nuthin!".
Also Oscar Wilde - "The Americans and the English are two great
peoples divided by a common language".
I rest my case.

Well.. if they'd learn to spell we wouldn't be divided any more would we?
hehehe

Actually though, I've never yet come across any explanations as you WHY some
words are spelt differently. In a lot of cases the American spelling seems
to be a simplified version (OK, some British spellings are somewhat
perplexing), but surely that's not due to any literary deficiency in the
American mind? :-)

As for the NY cabby... well... what can I say? :)

Must also apologise to the OP for stealing their thread a little. I can't
help with their particular problem but as it relates to legal issues and
possible criminal action I think their best option is to speak to a
lawyer... As it stands, unless file auditing was enabled, it's not going to
be possible to prove who copied what from where...

Lorne

My Apologies also. My son is an IP/IT solicitor (lawyer for those
over the pond) and his first question was 'Are we talking about
bespoke software, if so, is the alleged theft from the software
house that wrote it? or from the user that bought/commissioned it?'
The point being who owns the intellectual rights must be the one to
enter tort.
