I have Windows XP Professional, and find that every time I try to access a
folder in windows explorer, it takes a very long time, sometimes as long as
five minutes, for it to display the folder, and these aren't large, some of
them with maybe 4-5 files. I didn't have this problem with Windows 2K is
there anything I can do to make this go faster?

system,open regedit, Find out :
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run

It maybe due to insufficient memory. You could also run the disk
defragmenter and see if it helps.

Get these free programs and run them after you reboot.

ADAWARE : http://www.lavasoftusa.com/software/adaware/ Removes malware,
spyware that Spybot doesn't

SPYBOT : http://www.safer-networking.org/en/download/index.html Removes
malware, spyware that Adaware doesn't

CCLEANER : http://www.ccleaner.com/ This baby removes all temp cache, and
other indexing crap on boot-up ... go into "options" and check off "at boot"
This stuff is probably clogging your system too

STARTUP INSPECTOR: http://www.windowsstartup.com/

You probably have too many startup items first of all. The inspector will
give you a consultative look at what runs in start-up and choose to delete
those startups that "snail" a boot up.

Then Defrag your computer ... You probably have file parts all over your
drive. Make sure ALL your anti-virus etc are all up-to-date...make sure you
keep those Windows Updates coming in.
