Since buying my new Dell Inspiron 531with Athlon 64 X2 4400 processor, I can
barely watch any kind of small video. I'm talking about a movie trailer or a
small how-to video from HGTV etc. Once the video runs through once with all
the stops and pauses that shouldn't be there, I can replay it smoothly. I
don't remember having this kind of trouble with my old computer. I still
have the same DSL Internet service as I had with my old computer so I'm
thinking there must be a setting that needs correcting somewhere. Windows
Media Player is my default player. I would appreciate any help you can give
me.

Hi, Sandee.

That sounds like a caching problem. Your system is not able to download
into the cache as quickly as the player is reading out of the cache. Once
the cache is full, the player can run at full speed. Any DSL ought to be
fast enough to keep up, but maybe not. And an X2 4400 should certainly be
fast enough.

Have you checked to be sure that you've not selected dial-up-speed for the
download? Maybe the web site is sending too slowly? Have you asked the
vendor who sold you the Dell?
