very slow response to 'file' command

Select HDD, select 'file' (or right click), and delay of
up to 30 seconds to get response. New problem on recently
installed WIN2K+SP4. Norton check=AOK. Any ideas?

Experienced the same. According to Kerio PF Explorer tries to connect to
the remote address: if you disable your network connection the delay
disappears.

If anyone can point to a solution s/he is welcome.

Thanks in advance and

Hi Kim

Ya I'm seeing the same thing on onwe of my servers. I
think I've also correlated this to several "green"
segments in defrag, green meaning the system files.
Apparently there should only be two, one at the beginning
and one in the middle of the system drive.

Check it out. hope someone can addrees this, it is
irritating isn't it???

Kim, try this,

Log on as a different user/administrator. Seems there was
a problem/corruption with my profile.

Yes (irritating), it was the context menu handler: simply delete values
from the following registry keys (after having done a backup (backed up
or backupped?)):

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\*\shellex\ContextMenuHandlers\Symantec.Norton.Antivir
us.IEContextMenu]
[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Drive\shellex\ContextMenuHandlers\Symantec.Norton.Ant
ivirus.IEContextMenu]
[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Folder\shellex\ContextMenuHandlers\Symantec.Norton.An
tivirus.IEContextMenu]

Hey Paolo,

Interesting Italian(?) comments :) You may know me!

I had to get an Italian colleague to translate.

As for the MenuHandlers, I don't have Norton though. One
thin I found was consolidating tables in boot mode using
defrasg utility then logging on as different admin. The
proble is gone. Something in the profile must be buggered
up.

Write you later!!

I have 2 computers shared accross a router and im
haveing the same problem, except when i unhook the power
to the router it works fine. I dont think its the router
because I have tried 2 different routers with the same
outcomes on each.

Days later, all now is ok, after not doing anything. I
have 2 PCs logged onto the win2K server and response to
right click/properties is very fast, as it should be. I'll
have to wait for problem to recur. Thanks Paolo/Carl/Bill.
