I have a no-name machine, Intel Core2Duo with 2GB of memory running Window
XPSP3. Motherboard is Gigabyte GA965P version 1... I believe it is version
as the version number is blocked but when speaking to the company, they sai
based upon the location of the writing that is the version it is
The problems are communications internally ..... Burning a cd can tak
almost an hour ..... installing a program from cd or dvd takes forever ...
and formatting a 250gb sata internal drive is 10% done after over 3 hours
The main hard drive is a Seagate 160gb sata ... the 250gb is drive "d" an
while I have had it sitting in the machine connected, it was previously no
formatted..... probably because I ran into this once before and cancelled th
format
Any thoughts on what settings I might look to change
Thanks

Your problem with burning and formatting might be linked. Rt.Click o
Taskbar>select Task Manager. Look in Processess for any values that are muc
higher than 00. Only System Idle should be very high. You can go to th
manufacturer of the 250GB Hard Drive and look under Your Model>Support.
would try disconnecting your cd/dvd drive
That can cause a slowdown if flaky. Make sure that your motherboard i
updated.
Problems of this kind often arise because the drive is not using DMA.
Problems of this kind often arise because the drive is not using DMA. As wel
as being slow this poses a heavy load on the processor whilst the drive i
in-use
Check the advanced settings for the IDE/SATA channels in Device Manager. I
they say "DMA if available" they are probably OK. If they are on PIO mod
they are not OK

Also, check and install / update the chipset drivers. Chipset driver
can provide the Ultra DMA IDE drivers which will help in using mos
DVD / CD drives.
