Just yesterday my usually very quick and stable system started taking
anything up to 2 minutes to look at the contents on My Computer or when in
an application if I try to open or Save as the dialogue box appears straight
away but if I click on the drop down to navigate to another drive, again it
can take up to 2 minutes to show the contents. I have shortcuts on my
desktop to most of my drives both mapped network and home and all of these
work fine. How do I fix this very annoying problem?
Please let me know via the newsgroup.

My Computer takes a few seconds over 2 minutes to refresh or come up. I have watched the task manager for a spike in CPU use but nothing stands out. I have been living with this for a few months and it makes some software unusable. I have had it in the shop and it seems to work there but then the problem comes back. I have replaced drives, Motherboard, and processor. I thought it was the HP DVD writer because the problem went away for a while while it was disconnected but it is still disconnected and my problem has returned.

I too wouls sure like a sollution. I am running out of ideas. This make my 2.8 Gigahertz machine perform more poorly than my 885 megahertz machine.
