VERY Slow Deleting of Temp Files

I have Int Expl 6 as part of XP Professional. Despite having the settings
whereby only 150 meg (okay, that's still a lot I suppose) of disk space is
reserved for temporary internet files, it can take upwards of 1/2 hour to
delete them all. Half-an-hour!

It's a 500 MHz 256 Meg RAM machine--obviously not all that blazing fast, but
certainly I'd expect it to not take 1/2 hour to delete files, even 150 meg
worth.

Tips?

You may want to buy a total of 512K memory chips.
Reboot every day.
Run Scandisk in Safe mode until it completes.
Update Windowsupdate.
Delete all files using Windows Explorer in C:\Windows\Temp\
How much free HD is there?
