I'm running Windows 2000 professional. When logging in it
takes over 1 minute (after typing user name and login) for
windows to find my personal settings. The login in not to
login to a network, but a one of four users.
What can I do to speed up getting to the Desktop? Please help.

Hi,
This problem would be because of too many startup files to be executed
when logging in, like music player, antivirus, desktop settings,
messenger,etc,.
You can remove few things which are not required when you start up.
goto START->RUN
Type MSCONFIG
Goto Startup and uncheck, which you feel is not required at startup.
This should make your logging in faster.

I don't have anything in the system tray. There are no
programs opening up. Also MSCONFIG does not work. (Should
it work in WIN2K?)

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Nothing at all in the system tray? That's amazing!

There is no MSConfig in Windows 2000. If you locate a copy from WinXp, it
will work as well as it does there. For managing startups, I much prefer
Mike Lin's Startup Control Panal, available from

You may very well find that programs starting up are not the cause of you
system's slow start-up.
