I posted a similar message about a month ago but never got enough response to resolve this problem. Hopefully this will solve the problem.
A good friend purchased a new computer which came with Windows XP Home. While the pc works fine, it seems to take a minute and a half to boot to the desktop. We have used msconfig to eliminate any unnecessary programs from booting and have tweaked the system as best we could but with no significant improvement in booting. The specs are:
Compaq Presario S5000J, 2.13 GHz, 256 MB SDRAM, 40 GB 5400 Ultra HD, and 64 MB NVIDIA video card.
In posting this I am beginning to wonder if the HD speed could be the problem?
Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.

90 seconds is perfectly acceptable for a cold boot to get
to Windows but if you wnat to speed it up definitely a
faster hard drive and what speed is your RAM that could
also slow it down a bit

Two things come to mind:
A. A faster Hard Drive would help [7200 RPM as opposed to 5400 RPM].
B. Add more RAM. 512 MB is about right for XP.
In closing, 90 seconds ain't bad for the present configuration.
