VERY long boot time

I experience a two to three minute delay in booting. When
the Windows 2000 Logo comes up and the status bar is
moving across the screen, it stops about halfway, there is
no apparent computer activity (no hits on the HD or
anything) for about 2 or 3 minutes. Then the boot
continues normally.

Any ideas? It drives me NUTS. Thanks!

Are there any unknown or trouble devices in Device Manager? It sounds like
it is having trouble starting a piece of hardware.

This has been reported with some PCI cards (network cards, firewire
cards, etc.) with poorly written drivers. Try uninstalling your PCI cards
one at a time and see if the problem goes away. Also check for
updated drivers.

I do have my NIC disabled because I use USB for my DSL
modem. Perhaps yanking it out will help. I'll give it a
try and report back. Thanks for the help!

This is usually related to disk problems. do a scandisk with the bad block
option. Check the event log and see what is earring out and go from there.
