VERY LITE file manager needed

I need a very small file manager utility program with VERY limited
capabilities. All I need is a window similar to the file manager that comes
with XP with a list of folders on the left (with the +/- sign to
expand/collapse subdirectories) and the pane on the right that lists the
files in that directory (if the actual files could be in the pane on the
left that would be fine). Space is a premium, the fewer icons etc. along
the top the better. I just want to be able to click on a file to run it. I
do not need any other capability. Doesn't have to copy, rename, delete,
etc.

Thanks in advance... Bob

If space is at a premium, why not use the Windows Explorer? It has more
functionality than most file managers, is more reliable, and the size is 0
KB.

It's not so much that space is a problem but I want it running all the time
so as little overhead as possible is best. I want it to be a separate
program because I've tried using Explore for this and sometimes if I click
certain things it will bring up another Explorer window, I'd rather have
them completely separate for that reason. Also I do not need any more
functionality for this particular usage.

Thanks... Bob

Not exactly the look you ask for, but a dual pane file manager (NC
clone), small and clean looking (has button/toolbar but they are easy
to remove via the view menu to make it even cleaner looking).
Easy to navigate. Reminds me of old Windows Winfile.exe (aka File
Manager).

All the best,

Wow,.. raving fast install... opens immediately after only a few
second... what power... seems to be a stand alone exe file?
It really feels like NC,.... and looks simple like win3.xx explorer...
Ah, those good old days.. this tool will be on my screen for long to
come. Great job... the only thing i miss are 8+3 filenames,.. but am I
glad that the developper did not "respect" that ;-)

Yes, it's very simple but works nicely. All of Pablo's software is great.

Looks intriging. I am going to use it in place of 2xEplorer for a ride.

A bit like Win3x/NT WinFile/File Manager yes. And very NC like.

Btw, if your OS is of the NT kind (NT/2k/XP) and you liked the Win3x
File Manager (this goes as suggestion to the OP also), you can get a
LFN aware copy of WinFile.exe (aka File manager) from WinNT 4.0 SP4:
<ftp://ftp2.granit.ru/Microsoft/NT/ServPack4/Year2000/SP/i386/winfile.exe>
above is file version 4.0.1381.91. I tried an earlier version,
4.0.1371.1, but it would for some reason not display my 2k \WinNT
directory, bug I guess. Above one works fine here though

If you get the above Winfile, you might also like the old
"FM Step Up", formerly shareware - now free.
FM StepUp NT for Windows NT 3.5x/4.0 (32-bit version) FREE!
<http://www.winability.com/fmutils/>
(also 16-bit version, plus a couple of other 16-bit FM-addons at site)

In a previous post you asked:

Yes several other free for personal use utilities there
<http://www.pablovandermeer.nl/downloads.html>
but I haven't tried any of them except for Pablo Commander. I seem to
recall the FTP Wanderer have been mentioned quite a few times here in
a.c.f, and I think also the DBF Explorer. Probably also some of the
other utilities he offers...I don't remember.

I just made a simple VB script that seems to accomplish this. I left
the code as short as I could. It will execute files in the top
directory of a drive but it says "File not found" when you try to
execute a file in any subdirectories. I don't know why this is but once
this problem is fixed it should be the smallest filemanager you can get.

The source code and executable are available at:
http://www.freesoftwarereviews.com/filemanager

You are free to modify it and use it however you like.

I found out what the problem was. There was no slash between the file's
name and file's path so /C:\WINDOWS\explorer.exe/ would execute as
/C:\WINDOWSexplorer.exe/. I fixed the problem and the working version
is now up.
