I have completed a 1hr 11 min movie using MSMM. The project file is 4 Meg but it interlinks with two huge avi files. One is 12.5 GB and the other is 13.5GB. Now trying to export the finished work back to tape on the camera and it creates a TMP file of 16.4 GB on a drive with 30 GB available. The program works fine on a smaller file. Can I split the avi files somehow without destroying all the project? Any other advice would be most helpful.

Alan,

Digital camcorder tapes are an hour.... will you be using an extended play
feature at a somewhat reduced quality? Or is the one hour limit the reason
you want to split the file?

Digital editing requires large hard drives. And believe me, 12gb is NOT a
huge file, I regularly work with 60+gb sizes!

Since you have such a small hard drive, the only thing I can really suggest
is that you save in WMV format. It's not going to be as good in quality,
but unless you want to go out and get a new hard drive, it's really your
only option because 12.5gb and 13.5gb and 16.4gb won't all fit on a 30gb
hard drive whatever we do!

The project file is merely a 'pointer' to the AVI files that MM2 is working
with. It does not contain any footage at all. Think of it as something
that you use to come back to if you need more than a single day to edit and
don't want the hassle of importing everything again.
