Very frightening thinking Front Page is going away.

We have been using FrontPage since 1998. It has been a lifesaver since the
founding of our corporation. We have grown as a 100% e-commerce corporation
fro zero to over a million in sales this year.

We use FrontPage everyday to add, modify or create information on our site
www.ringdesigner.com. We have a 275meg site extremely image rich housed on
an apache server (Verio).

We have resisted the hype to change to another program (Cold Fusion etc) as
FrontPage was our foundation platform.

Bottom line, if it ain't broken why go fix it?

Between how Outlook 2007 does not seem an any functional improvement to
Outlook 2003, and this FrontPage cancelation, what are the powers that be
smoking up in Redmondf?

Why ???

it's not like at a given date in the future Frontpage's around the
world are suddenly going to go belly-up and expire, you can still use
it, make pages, make sites.. the "Web" is not going to reject your
frontpage after the 'eighth of whenever' and tell you to upgrade to the
next generation program!!
as you say ~ if it ain't broke - why replace it.. if it's doing for
you all that you want it to do - keep using it.
It's a bit like my faithful old Sygate Firewall - it does exactly what
it's meant to do, and continues to do so - just because Symantec bought
it and tossed it in the garbage, or incorporated it's parts into their
own programs - doesn't mean I suddenly had to go out and find a new
firewall.
( though having said that - I'm curious to see what this new
"impressions" can do! just hope the learning curve aint too steep! -
and if it is~ I'll just keep on with Frontpage )

Relax.
FrontPage support will continue for quite some time.
Expressions Web Designer ( EWD ) is the replacement for FrontPage.
EWD will work just fine with your FrontPage websites.

Well I do hope that we dont run into web-hosters deciding after a
couple of years that for some reason they are no longer going to
support frontpage extensions or something like that (assuming the
replacement program doesnt use them).

I mean that, it seems to me, is the scenario that would be of concern
to someone planning to hang in there with Frontpage since it is doing
the job they need done. In such a case they might be forced to make a
change to EWD, like it or not.

I assume by the statements you make that you have gotten a look at EWD

FP will be supported till 2009.
EWD is in ctp beta and it's very cool, standards compliant. You can download
it and try it!
It can use FP2002 extensions, but doesn't need them except to support legacy
webs I believe.

microsoft.public.expression.webdesigner

and it's buddy graphics vector/raster designer (EGD):

Expression Web Designer is very very very very similar to frontpage 2003

You wont have a problem

Hi
Does it still have the database interface and creation wizards, and you say
that it doesn't need FP extensions for these applications?

I have the beta versions of both EWD and SharePoint Designer installed.

I think the db wizard is retiring. Check on the ng I posted...all the gurus
are there.

True, but that will shorten the lifespan of FrontPage.

Yah, but I doubt they'd rip out the extensions...they'll just continue to
not support them as they have always done :-)

Hi Rob
I tried to find the newsgroup microsoft.public.expression.webdesigner
but I couldn't find it
Paul M

This link

news://msnews.microsoft.com/microsoft.public.expression.webdesigner

will open the newsgroup in Outlook Express.

Someone within the last few weeks indicated that their web host was pulling the extensions as of
this July (I think they indicated July), so if that is the case with many web host, then FP will be
of little use to those of us that depend on the extensions for publishing, etc.

That link does not seem to open it with the Agent newsreader. Cant
find it in the list of groups. Do I need to request my ISP to add it?
