I create a .doc file. On a certain page, I want to type a sentence very
close to the bottom of the page (say 1/8- 1/4 inch from the bottom). I want
to do it just on that page.

How do I do this?? That is, how do I change the bottom margin on just that
page??

Go to the page where you want to change the bottom margin.

Select File, Page Setup

In the margins tab, enter the size of the bottom margin you desire.

In the Apply to option, select This point forward

Click OK

Go to the following page.

Select File, Page Setup

In the margins tab, enter the size of the bottom margin you have o
your other pages.

In the Apply to option, select This point forward

Click OK

You can't easily change the margin, but you can put text anywhere.
While the cursor is in some paragraph on that page, use Insert > Text
Box. Draw a text box near the bottom of the page and type your
sentence into it. Drag the edges of the box to the size you want.
Right-click the edge of the box, select Format Text Box, and set the
Line dropdown to "none" to remove the border.

Depending on your printer and its driver, you may not be able to print
anything that close to the bottom of the page. For many inkjet
printers, the minimum is 0.67 inch. See
http://www.mvps.org/word/FAQs/Formatting/BottomsDontPrint.htm.

Jay:

I tried what you said but ran into one problem: I did not see any command
called line drop down (I have WORD 97). Am I missing it somehow?? However,
what I did do was to change the border color to white (same as background
color) and that accomplished the same thing. But, where is this dropdown
command??

Hi, MB,

A dropdown isn't a command, it's a widget in a dialog -- a rectangle
containing text or a picture, with a button to its right that has a
downward-pointing arrow. When you click the arrow, a list "drops down" from
the rectangle so you can pick a different value.

In the next paragraph, I'll talk about what I see in Word 2000, but I think
it's the same in Word 97. Someone will correct me if I'm wrong. :-)

In the Format Text Box dialog, the second section from the top is labeled
"Line". Within that section, the first item is labeled "Color" and the
rectangle is filled with black at first. When you click the arrow button
next to it, a mini-dialog appears with a bunch of colors -- but the very top
thing there is a rectangle that says "No Line". Click that. The mini-dialog
disappears, and the Color rectangle now says "No Line". Click the OK button.
The text box will now show a non-printing border as long as it's selected,
but the border will disappear when the cursor is elsewhere on the page.

The difference between "No Line" and a white border is that a white border
will be visible in a printed document if you place the text box over some
colored background such as a picture. A "No Line" border will always be
invisible.

Oh, cheezzzz. (In other words, DUH!) Sorry, I misread your note and it just
didn't connect that you meant the Line Drop Down menu!!! And the choice was
right there when I picked the color!!

Thanks for your help!
