I just got my Sony DCR-HC40 Handycam to shoot video of my young children. I
simply want to import the video into my computer where I can eventually
create a DVD.

I have the Firewire connection going and my computer with Windows XP SP2
launches Microsoft Movie Maker and I am able to import the video as High
Quality (NTSC) and as an avi format. The thing that I don't understand is
that it creates all of these "individual clips" ranging from 1 second to 40
seconds. I don't want to do any editing or transitions, I simply want to
create a movie of what I shoot. If I shoot a 5 minute video, I only want to
have one clip of the 5 minute video not a zillion clips with transitions.
What am I doing wrong here?

Thanks,
Fred

You aren't doing anything wrong.
MM is assuming you want clips so you can edit the movie more easily than if
you have one huge clip.

You can run your DVD burning app and go to the "My Videos" folder and use
the file you captured for burning your DVD.
If all you want to do is burn the captured file to disc, you do not need to
use Movie Maker for anything except the capture, so you can quit when done
capturing and ignore what MM puts in the collection.

If you want clips in movie maker, use the capture defaults - if not then
clear the checkbox in capture that says to make clips and you won't have to
wait the extra time to wait for the clips to paint.

Thanks!

What is supposed to be the best software for this type of thing? Someone
told me that Pinnacle was a very good product for what I was wanting to do.
