Very basic question about reusing hard drives

My home pc has just 'died" as the motherboard blew and I took out the
hard drive to copy the data. My pc at work is old and has a small hard
drive - could i put the hard drive from the 'dead' pc into my work pc?
both ran on window xp.

You can take the drive from your home computer
and connect it as a second drive...to your work computer..
but you cannot simply pop the old drive in your work computer
and expect the system to work...

you'd have to use cloning software etc
